SOP for Operation and calibration of Hot Air Oven for Drying
1.0 Purpose:To lay down a procedure for operation of Hot air oven.
2.0 Scope:
This procedure is applicable for operation of hot air oven in laboratory.
3.0 Responsibility:
Microbiologist / Designee:To perform operation procedure as per SOP.
Head/ Designee - QC :To review and ensure compliance of SOP.
Head/ Designee - QA :To approve, implement and ensure compliance of SOP.
4.0 Procedure:
4.1 Precautions:
4.1.1 Ensure that the equipment is on firm base.
4.1.2 Do not keep any glassware containing media or with organic solvents.
4.1.3 Do not increase the temperature more than Requirement.
4.1.4 Ensure that equipment is clean and suitable for use.
4.2 Operation:
4.2.1 Switch "ON" the main power supply to the instrument.
4.2.2 Press function key "SEL" of temperature control.
4.2.3 Press UP/DOWN key to set the desired temperature as per the method required.
4.2.4 Wait for about 30 minutes to stabilize the set temperature.
4.2.5 Keep washed glassware on the stainless steel shelf and close the door.
4.2.6 After apparatus is dried, remove with the help of gloves.
4.2.7 Open the door and clean the inside Stainless steel shelf using cloth.
4.2.9 Dry the glassware at 60oC.
4.3 Calibration:
4.3.1 All the essential components of hot air oven should be calibrated.
4.3.2 Calibration Frequency: Once in a year by external party or after major maintenance or repairs.
4.4 Maintenance:
4.4.1 When equipment is under breakdown; put the tag stating "UNDER MAINTENANCE" with date and sign of the analyst and inform to Head/designee QC.
4.4.2 Head QC will inform to the Engineering /equipment manufacturer / service person.
4.4.3 After completion of major repairing / servicing job, calibrate the equipment to ensure the proper working.
4.5 Cleaning:
4.5.1 Switch off the power supply to the Oven.
4.5.2 Remove all glassware from the Oven.
4.5.3 Clean the Oven from outside with dry cloth daily and weekly with wet cloth dipped in disinfectant solution.
4.5.4 Wipe internal surface with soft cloth dipped in disinfectant solution.
