SOP for Operation of Fogger

1.0 Purpose:  

To lay down a procedure for operation of fogger machine.

2.0 Scope:

This procedure is applicable for operation of fogger machine used for fumigation.

3.0 Responsibility:

Operator:To operate the instrument as per SOP.

Microbiologist / Designee:To monitor the fogging procedure as per SOP.

Head/ Designee - QC :To review and ensure compliance of SOP.

Head/ Designee - QA :To approve, implement and ensure compliance of SOP.

4.0 Procedure:

4.1 Precaution:

4.1.1 During operation of fogger machine wear goggles, gloves, and facial mask.

4.1.2 Do not dispense flammable liquid such as acetone benzene etc. Never Fog near or toward an open flame.

4.1.3 Do not switch on the machine in the absence of intake air filter in its place. 

4.1.4 Fogger sucks the air from rear end through air filter, replace the filter when it becomes dirty.

4.1.5 Do not swing fogger in running condition as motor rotates at very high speed.

4.1.6 Do not immerse the machine in water or other liquid to clean it.

4.1.7 Do not rotate timer knob manually in counter clockwise direction as it damage the timer devise.  

4.2 Operation:

4.2.1 Place the fogger machine on a very steady table or surface at 2-3 feet height. Ensure that it does not fall down during running condition.

4.2.2 Direct the motor housing and nozzle to approx 40-50 degree and tighten the tow knobs on the sides.

4.2.3 Remove nipple lid and pour the disinfectant solution. 

4.2.4 With switch in off position, plug power cord into timer socket and connect timer cable to power outlet of the proper voltage.

4.2.5 Set the timer at calculated time by rotating the knob in clockwise direction for a particular time. 

4.2.6 As the timer knob returns back to "O MINUTE POSITION" timer will auto stop the machine.

4.2.7 Record in the usage log book about activity.

4.1.8 Fogging Solution:

> Triple 256
> Virosil 

4.1.9 Frequency: 

> Microbiology area once in a week.
> Production and Warehouse area fortnight.

4.3 Dosage Instruction:

4.3.1 Volume of disinfectant used for fogging= volume of space to be fogged X application rate

Where,
          Volume of space to be fogged = length X width X height 
           (e.g. 20 X 20 X 10 = 4000 ft3)

4.3.2 Application rate: 400 ml of disinfectant /1000 cuft.

4.3.3 Output flow rate: 50ml/ minute.

4.3.4 Refer dosage of disinfectant solution: 
Volume (ft3) X Application rate (ml/ ft3)

4.3.5 Time required: total liquid to be fogged (ml)/ flow rate (ml/minute). 

4.4 Cleaning:

4.4.1 Clean the fogger after each use.

4.4.2 Drain the unused virosil from the tank, rinse it with water.

4.4.3 Always fog for a few minutes with clean water to flush chemical residues from the internal lines.

4.4.4 Nozzle cleaning: If any deposits are formed into the nozzle parts, it requires to be cleaned. Use needle or pin to clean solid residues left in nozzle parts and run machine with plain water to flush out the residues.

4.4.5 Tank cleaning: always empty the tank after each use before storage and clean with purified water.

4.4.6 Intake air filter cleaning: Dirty and clogged filter should be washed with water, dried and used (do not squeeze).
